What Is Bipolar Disorder? Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder that causes uncommon shifts in mood, energy, ability to perform daily routines and another terminology is ââ¬Å"manic-depressive illnessâ⬠. According to American Psychiatric Association ââ¬Å"Bipolar diagnosed patients can lead full and productive livesâ⬠. This isnââ¬â¢t by any means harmful or threatening but can be well managed, controlled and yield positives because it can be treated. How Can Bipolar Behavior Be Recognized? An individual can be in one of the two unalike phases when experiencing an episode or actually active in both phases at the same time. There is the mania and depressed mood swings. Mania when experienced is feeling ââ¬Å"highâ⬠. This means extreme happiness. It includesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The person feels completely helpless, thinking they are of no value or worth and cannot find balance in their moods. Several issues arise when in a depressed phase for example, a person sleeping all day when faced in a confrontation or argument instead of going for a short walk and returning or might be as simple as a time out. Other depressed phase behaviors are: loss of interest or energy to function, thinking of death or sad events, constantly fatigued and just like manic episode, can lead to suicide. Bipolar disorder when severe often is confused with schizophrenia paranoia (hearing or seeing things, being too worried or feeling threatened). The Causes According to ULifeline ââ¬Å"Bipolar disorder is based in brain chemistry and tends to run in familiesâ⬠. When researched across different approaches, it has been found that there isnââ¬â¢t one single cause of developing this illness. External factors have been found to trigger manic-depressive episodes. Stress, bad sleep routines, use of Alcohol or drugs such as cocaine, heroin are examples of these. It makes sense that these environmental factors are triggers because the end result of habits or such behaviors that are so unhealthy is physical, emotional, mental, psychological imbalance or destruction when observed for an extended amount of time or period.
